Fish out of water has been a thing of great difficulty “not the idiom ”  but the animal itself. Fish are aquatic animals and prey to humans. Fish, therefore, don’t have the natural ability or developed lungs for that matter to survive on land.

Fish get their oxygen too. Fish get the oxygen their bodies need by pumping water over the gills …Gills extract from oxygen water and send it into the fish’s bloodstream. For this reason, most fish and other aquatic animals that get oxygen from water, can’t survive on land very long.

Hence the fish would dry and suffocate and die since the maximum for Hardy pet fishes can only survive out of water for up to 10 minutes.

Studies have shown that takes it 55-250 minutes for it to suffocate,This research was done by a Dutch man.This is applicable for various species not all. These types also become insensible  during asphyxiation.

Fish that evolved for low-oxygen environments take longer to die. At higher temperatures, fish lose consciousness more quickly.

Which fish can has the potential to survive the longest out of water?

The fish with the highest potential is said to be the Mangrove rivilus.They can survive for about 66 days on land! Most fish die within half an hour outside of water because they can only pull oxygen out of the water through their gills.

The flying fish

The Exocoetidae are a family of marine fish in the order Beloniformes class Actinopterygii, known colloquially as flying fish or flying cod. About 64 species are grouped in seven to nine genera.

While they cannot fly in the same way a bird does, flying fish can make powerful, self-propelled leaps out of the water where their long wing-like fins enable gliding for considerable distances above the water’s surface.

The main reason for this behavior is thought to be to escape from underwater predators like the under water sword fish,mackarel ,tuna and Marlin.and they period of lights lead them to great danger by other predators like the frigate birds.

Do this fish actually fly?

Flying fish are ray-finned fish with highly modified pectoral fins. Despite their name, flying fish aren’t capable of powered flight. Instead, they propel themselves out of the water at speeds of more than 35 miles (56 kilometers) an hour.

Can flying fish stay on land?

They are the same like  the  other categories of fish who only few seconds before they supphocate on the land .

Pulling a fish out of water for commercial purposes has been a skill over time from the early days of mankind.

These skill requires a lot of attributes

The get wet procedure

Lifting a fish out of water, dramatically increases it’s survival chances .The longer a fish is out of water the chance of it’s survival  decrease exponentially.Try and remove the hook with the fish still in water .

If it is not possible to remove the hook while the fish is still in water use a landing net with a  wide mesh,and a mesh made out of soft material .

Rough,hard netting would remove slime and sclaes from the fish,which it’s natural protection against parasites and infection.

On bigger salt water fish,it may be necessary to use a gaff.if so,try and gaff the fish from inside the mouth and out the lower jaw .

Never touch a fish gills they are extremely delicate  and tender just touching them can damage them severely

If you must lift a fish in your hands,hold the fish under the latchy Gill part with one hand and just the front of the tail with the other .

Never ever once not lift a fish out of water by lifting the belly area.you would most certainly damage internal organs it reduces survival chances dramatically.

Never lay trout’s on the ground

This would remove slime and allow the fish to be attacked by fungi and bacteria that can kill it .

Unhook with accurate speed

The longer you take over hook removal, the less the chances of the fish survival. The less care you take over removing the hook, the less chance of the fish survival.

Use a pair of forceps, a long-nosed plier, or a purpose-made hook out to quickly and efficiently remove the hook. If the fish is deeply hooked back in the throat or stomach cut the line as close to the hook as possible and leave the hook in the fish it would probably do more damage trying to remove a deep hook than leaving it where it is.

Barbless hooks have made work much easier to remove and do far less damag.You can flatten  a Barb with parallel jawed pliers.

Do not use treble or double hooks

These can really damage a fish and be very hard to remove.If you are a saltwaterfishing try using hooks, which hook up more in the corner of the jaw and are much easier to remove .

The No throwing policy

The major problem with tossing a fish back to the water is that the fish can go into a sudden shock that float belly- up.in the sea this  is an open invitation for predators to attack .in the river current will take the fish down the stream and  away from any chance of re catching it and of reviving it in a lake the fish can be out of reach,and die belly up .
